Artists’ murals give our train station a facelift

I took these shots last fall here at the St. Catharines Train Station when artists were putting the final touches on the murals.  There was a write-up at the time in The Standard, as the families of some of the soldiers portrayed in the murals attended the opening of the new display.  I didn’t go to the opening, but I did go later to see the paintings, which are a lovely addition to the old station.

The train station isn’t what you’d term busy, by any means.  Freight trains pass through, Canadian trains, as well as Amtrak and, about two years ago, the GO trains started a limited schedule.  In family diaries from decades ago, the train station is mentioned frequently, but now it’s mainly used by commuters, as the parking lot contains only a handful of cars on any given day.
